Defining Leadership

The Webster's dictionary defines "leadership" as...
Main Entry: lead·er·ship
Pronunciation: \ˈlē-dər-ˌship\
Function: noun
Date: 1821
1 : the office or position of a leader 2 : capacity to lead 3 : the act or an instance of leading 4 : leaders

Interesting...it's been around for quite some time....

Britannica places leadership in references of "collective behaviour", "fascism", "public opinion" and "warfare".... as well as a few others (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/333680/leadership#tab=active~checked%2Citems~checked&title=leadership%20--%20Britannica%20Online%20Encyclopedia)

So from what frame of reference am I thinking of leadership? I guess I see it as an innate sense of moving toward something you are passionate about- in some way that passion has a tangible end that begins with a vision or intangible beginning- yet- you cannot accomplish alone. To get to this end you need help and as a "leader" you inspire others along the way and they believe in your passion and idea...point of reference...where you are going...and want to come along...Your job is to forge the path, motivate...keep the faith...and manage the group through the quicksand - sometimes making tough decisions....That's a beginning of my thoughts...I think it is so much more ....and am working on finding my definition.....
